Listen to your PASSION

I am writing this as I listen to some of my favorite musicians and in the past I have talked to you about how music has influenced me in my life. On my IPOD one play list I created is called “workout” and these are simply songs I listen to as I workout. One of them is a song called ‘Lose Yourself” by Eminem. I can hear some of you know rolling your eyes but I am not going to have a battle of music right now I save those debates with Clay “M”. I want to talk about passion and not only what is your passion but what to do with it.

As I listen to “Lose Yourself” I can not help but think of the words. The first line “Look if you had one shot one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted one moment would you capture or would you let it slip” are very powerful words. The rest of the song talks about how he was in a rap contest and basically he bombed. He did not give up his dream though to be the best. Another artist I listen to is Kid Rock (stop rolling your eyes) and his song “Cocky” I love his message in the song it just says “I’m cocky but it is not bragging if you can back it up.” To me both of these songs represent the inner drive that the artists have all created though their passion of knowing what they want out of life. Love or hate Eminem and Kid Rock they are doing what they want to do because they have a drive.

My passion of wanting to be a professional speaker is where my drive is currently focused on. I understand that it will take time, dedication and hard work but that is how it should be correct? When you have your “AH HA” moment of knowing what you truly want to do in life that stirs the fire in your belly. You feel that momentum no matter what time of day it is and the next thing you are on your computer researching the HOW you can make that AH HA a reality?

I told you that one of my play lists is a “Workout” but before I left home to come back to the West coast I down loaded a audio book. I did a lot of research on this author and looked at the reviews before I paid for this book and I am very happy I did. The book is called “Crush It” by Gary Vaynerchuk is worth every penny spent. First off Gary is a NY guy and wants to someday own his favorite football team the NY Jets. He is very high energy and when you are working out and listening to a book it is just like listing to high energy music so very motivating. “Crush It” will help you if you want to start your own business or take an idea and expanded it to a bigger audience. I have joined Twitter because I want to take my blog to the masses. I am next going to (in a short time) start doing a video blog. Why you ask? This is to get my business, my name out there. Gary gives you several platforms for you to get your message out on several different “Social Networking Sites” other then the most popular ones. Still not sure if I am ready for Face Book yet.

I know you will be rolling your eyes soon but I just want to end by saying follow your passion find what drives you. We all have worked for that company where you wanted to quit to start a business and work for yourself. Just remember you might end up working more hours but the flip side is that this is YOUR business and you could always fire yourself. On that note I want to leave you a song title (get ready for the eyes to roll) by Depeche Mode and that is “Nothing’s Impossible.”

See me feel me hear me

I have talked about this before but when someone recognizes it in you and sees a different you then it can be very powerful. When a positive change has inflicted into you and you know it but when others around you take notice it is a WOW moment. I have talked about what a difference a year has made in my life; new house, love life, new friend are just some examples. Friday I was told by one of the clients at the office to my face that I seem to be the “fun” person of the group. I guess as a trainer yes I do enjoy having fun. This person meant like more of the party animal type but then someone who I have the highest respect for said something that blew me away. Dorothy has been a co-worker of mine for over a year, she is a “Subject Matter Expert” or SME on the current project. She has a great giggle for her life and is so full of life. She turned to me after the “fun” comment was made and said to me “what a difference a year makes” and I was not sure at first what she meant. I was just thinking project wise but she meant me. She might have known the life struggles I went through last year and more of questioning of life when my very good friend “Mac” passed away. I had know idea that my attitude or should I say my lost existence was that obvious and it was.

Today is Valentines Day and I got to spend it with someone who I do love and that person is Connor my son (for those reading this for the first time). Where do bachelors go and have a good time, you know guy bonding time. I can think of only one other place but he is WAY to young so the second choice is ‘Monster Jam.” If you are not familiar with Monster Jam it is not a rock concert but it is an event. This is monster truck time that comes to Denver once a year. We did not go last year and the redneck in me missed it. I missed it more because this is a father son event. I caught myself at time today getting emotional because this is a special event for him and me. These special moments might not be logged into his memory bank years down the road but these are moments that he and I will share. Someone told me once that pictures are for people who can not remember; well I have many pictures today in my head that can never be downloaded onto a computer and that is ok by me.

Yes what a difference a year makes and truly and honestly would my journey be on this path that I have taken? Most likely not. For example after completing my first class I had a final grade of an “A” and that is a good start. Would I have followed a passion of writing a blog? Again most likely not. I have several goals that need to be achieved and what will I accomplish in a years time who knows but the one thing I do know. I want to keep getting up every day to see what I will be successful at. Let’s hit the path and continue on our journey.

Go to your happy place, no really.

My thoughts are to blame for missing my flight and the sad truth is I knew something was going to occur. For many years my thoughts were of if I have a great weekend then the rest of the week will be dreadful and it would be. In the past my thoughts would take control of even how terrible I would even play hockey. Why would my thoughts do this to me or how would my thoughts control my so called “bad luck?” Very simply my thoughts sent out the message to the universe and the universe responded back. I am sure your thoughts are saying HUH?

Over the weekend I watched the DVD of “The Secret” it might be making sense if you have read the book but I will explain. What the book/DVD says in the plain truth that it details what is called “The Law of Attraction” and that is fancy talk for; what you put out you will receive back. Ok here is the example. I had an appointment the other morning and had to time the drive back home to have a cab ready for the trip to the airport. My thought was that there was no way I was going to make it to the airport on time so by putting that message into my head and repeating it the energy was sent out. It was sent out to the universe stating that I already knew without a shadow of a doubt that I was not going to be on that flight (and in FIRST CLASS). Every time I was preparing for this meeting I would have that recurring thought of “not going to make the flight.”

The day started off as the alarm going off and hearing on the radio that we were expecting 3-6 inches of snow in our area and of course the one thought tiptoed into my head and what was that thought? YES!! I was not going to make my flight and no matter what I said to myself it was already out in the universe. The message was sent out there and it was not coming back like a boomerang, to late and to bad.

The drive was good and my thoughts were focused on the meeting with positive thoughts in my head. I needed this to go well for a possible future endeavourer. Alright it was time to head back home and the message in my head was still not going to make the flight even though I should of really not cared, there are other flights. I was on the highway and since it was still snowing I ended up spinning out of control and hitting another vehicle. Nobody was hurt so I was very grateful about that. Oh and yes I missed the flight.

I really do believe if my thoughts were put in more of a positive state VS a negative one then we would not be having this conversation at all. The point of the “Law of Attraction” is to say to ones self “I am going to get an A on the test.” Instead of thinking you will be getting more bills think of the opposite and tell yourself that you will be receiving a check. Yes it does take a lot of focusing on your part however this will create positive energy within your mind and body.

Another great example of the “Law of Attraction” is to sit in your house and imagine the new car you just drove off the lot. Literally sit in a chair and close your eyes and make all of the body motions of driving a car. This mental visualizing is what athletes of all sports use. The golfer before making the three foot putt or the baseball player before they step into the batters box seeing in their mind the rotation of the laces on the baseball. Just sending so called happy thoughts is not going to just do it; you need to actually see it in your mind as well. Example I have is last night when I was leaving the office and speaking to the security guard about how he IS going to win the lottery (he does play). He told me he does use positive thinking and that is when I told him that he needs to see it in his mind and more importantly act as if he HAS won. He became so excited about this information and knowledge that I have no doubt in my mind he will win a lottery and soon.

Today my energy is sending thoughts to the universe of being in my new office and preparing to write and teach training classes that I have created. The office is in a town in Colorado and able to drive home every night. Plus I am thinking how wonderful it is to have an office oh and YES it will happen. Stay positive.

Yes Man Yes Man Yes Man….

Yes Man Yes Man Yes Man….

Getting back to the hotel I started to channel surf (don’t worry my school work was done) and came across a movie. I do like Jim Carey movies but for some reason “Yes Man” is one of his favorites because he actually plays a smart guy with not a lot of his normal “goofy” behavior. Carey plays a guy who is just living day by day, no risks and is not a go getter. He likes to be at home watching TV. Nothing really wrong with this life style.

Carey gets talked into going to see of all people a motivational speaker named Terrence. The message that Terrence relays to Carey is to stop saying no to life and start saying yes. Well Carey takes it to the extreme and says yes to everything but this why I like this movie. He says yes to things so he can better himself; guitar lessons, learns to fly and even takes a crack to learn Korean. I want to be like him, we all should say yes to better ourselves and stop saying no to life.

My “Yes Man” current moment is being back in the virtual world of on-line schooling but I need to do better. What have you been saying no to in your life? What steps can you do to make yourself a “Yes Person?” When you go to job interviews and sometimes you get the question of “where do you see yourself in five years” well ask yourself maybe not necessary in five years but how about tomorrow? Is there an idea that you have wanted to do or try something new? What are you waiting for? Why are you still saying no to life let alone YOUR life?

I want you and I to create a covenant that we promise to help each other become “Yes People” and stop saying no to life just because that is the easy way out. We just need to sometimes take a risk or make a decision even if it turns out to be the wrong decision it was still a step forward. I promise to you that if you need a boost or kick in the pants I am here for you.

I can’t wait for the next movie to come across but don’t worry you won’t see me make a motivational blog about “Saw.”

Failure is not an option.
